What Makes Midjourney Different

Every major AI image generator has improved dramatically in the last year. But Midjourney still consistently produces the most visually striking, artistic results. There's something about its aesthetic sensibility that other tools haven't matched.

The Discord UX — Still Weird, Still Worth It

Midjourney runs entirely through Discord, which remains its biggest barrier to entry. You type prompts in a Discord channel, images appear as replies, and you refine from there. It's unusual, but you adapt quickly.

They've added a web interface (midjourney.com/explore) for browsing and some generation, but the main workflow is still Discord-based.

Image Quality in V6

V6 improvements:

• Dramatically better photorealism
• Much better text rendering in images
• More accurate prompt following
• Better hands and faces (the longtime AI weakness)

We ran 100 prompts through Midjourney V6 and DALL-E 3. Midjourney won on artistic quality 73% of the time. DALL-E 3 was easier to prompt but less impressive visually.
